I don’t mean to gossip, but there seems to be an obsession with frippery aboard the S.S. Caravel. Of course, Sylvia prefers pants over petticoats, and our beloved captain is enthusiastic about elegant tailoring, but in general my female shipmates have a propensity for pretty. Like Miss Kingsley herself, I strive to maintain practicality at all times. This simple cotton skirt is my passion du jour. Fitted at the hips with two satin pockets, one band of lace and (only) one satin ruffle, what it lacks in trim it makes up for in taste. Added grommets allow one to hitch it up for mountain-climbing or fetching the mail, while twill belt loops hold a tool belt in position. The trim waistband lies flat beneath a corset, cincher or fitted jacket. Finally, a skirt built for adventure. Or…even…a cup of tea with the girls. Once we’ve all stopped drooling over the new hats, that is.

This skirt is both lovely and comfortable. I love the way it hangs, and the shiny ruffle and pockets make it juuuust dressy enough that it can be worn to a (relaxed business casual) workplace, or utilitarian enough to wear more casually out for a walk or running errands.

After washing, I would recommend hang drying and straightening the bottom row of lace out all the way around before it dries.

I have the khaki skirt. I would be curious to see pictures of the black one, because I can't decide if I want to buy it, too!
I made sure to ask about the measurements of this skirt before I ordered and I'm very glad I did. A small is going to be a 30 inch waist and that was perfect for me. I'm kinda short (5 foot 2 inches) and it comes down to just above my ankles. I would also advise no rough and tumble washing or dying, but it's a lovely skirt. I ordered the color shown in the photograph and the the details are even better in person.
First off - fit. I am a size 12/14 and the Large I ordered fit comfortably. I am short (5'0") and the skirt goes just to my ankles. It does not drag on the ground which made me happy. If you have long legs this may turn into a just below the knees or mid-calf skirt.

Overall this is a great basic skirt. The stain ruffle which matches the satin pockets adds a nice feminine touch to the skirt. The pockets do not snap shut, so be careful about using them to hold anything precious (or add a pin to the center to make it close a little more securely!).

This skirt would be a great base for a mechanic who didn't want to wear pants, a tinkerer, or an adventurer.
